Tool theft is a growing crisis for tradespeople across the UK. According to research by On The Tools, 86% of UK tradespeople worry about tool theft, with 58% expressing daily concern. Alarmingly, 75% have experienced tool theft firsthand, underscoring the urgent need for effective solutions. The impact is devastating – lost income, delayed jobs, and soaring insurance premiums.

That’s why the industry came together in the largest rally against tool theft the UK has ever seen. In early February, hundreds of tradespeople took to the streets of London, demanding action. The message was loud and clear: it’s time to crack down on tool theft and protect those who keep Britain’s infrastructure running.

The Fight Against Tool Theft: What Resources are Available?

While the rally made headlines, the fight against tool theft is ongoing. Thankfully, several initiatives are helping to deter thieves and protect tradespeople’s valuable tools:

  • Tool Tracking Systems – Solutions like SelectaDNA and Milwaukee One Key make stolen tools easier to track and return. By marking tools and vans with unique identifiers, it deters thieves and makes the tools much harder for them to sell them on.
  • Tougher Security Measures – High security storage solutions such as Armogard Van Boxes are built with heavy-duty steel and feature anti-drill locks and reinforced lids which can deter and prevent theft.
  • Power Tool Insurance – Whilst tool insurance doesn’t directly fix the problem it can limit the potential impact it can have on your ability to work after an instance and ease your concerns. Companies such as Trade Direct Insurance and Markel are dedicated to supporting tradespeople.

Brymec’s Commitment to the Cause

At Brymec, we know that tools are more than just equipment – they’re your livelihood. That’s why we continue to stand with the industry against tool theft.

Last year, we helped one of our customers, Sam from APH Services, after he fell victim to a devastating tool theft. Knowing how much was at stake, our team acted fast to replace their equipment, minimising downtime and getting them back on the job as quickly as possible. Watch the full story below.

We will continue to support our customers and the wider industry by raising awareness, pushing for change, and working towards a future where no tradesperson has to suffer the financial and emotional toll of tool theft.

Together, we can make a difference.
